Behind the Scenes: Meet the Team Sirius Board

Behind the Scenes: Meet the Team Sirius Board

Team Sirius has always been more than just a cycling team—it’s a community of passionate people dedicated to making a difference. As we’ve grown, we realized that having a board would help shape the team’s direction, make key decisions, and ensure our events run smoothly. Initially, the board was made up of long-time team members who were at nearly every event. Recently, we’ve expanded, welcoming new members to bring fresh perspectives and ideas.

Meet the Team Sirius Board

Our board members each bring something unique to the table, whether it’s event planning, fundraising, or cycling expertise. Here’s a look at the team leading the charge:

• Gayle Gallagher – Team Captain
• Dr. Susan Sczepanski – Co-Captain, Team Sponsor, and Base Camp Coordinator (Columbia, MO)
• Brendon Gallagher – Co-Captain, (Sirius Wealth Management); the reason Team Sirius was formed, as Brendon has MS.
• Bud Straumann – 20+ year team member and avid rider, providing insight from a cyclist’s perspective.
• Missey Vancil – Dedicated volunteer and crew member.
• Dean Gallagher – 20+ year team member and our liaison for the “Bike for Heroes” ride.
• Jim Leftwich – Avid cyclist and newer board member (Columbia, MO)
• Judie Miles – The newest board member! Judie has been a supporter of Team Sirius for years, originally joining because of our MS fundraising. She is an optometrist and was instrumental in Brendon’s early diagnosis. She also brings a new connection to an organization we will be supporting in the near future (announcement coming soon!).

What Happens at a Board Meeting?

As Team Sirius has grown, so has our focus. We’ve transitioned from organizing one major event per year to managing/attending multiple different events, which means our meetings are full of planning and decision-making. Each board member has a specific role, ensuring we stay on track and can continue to make an impact.

Our most recent meeting focused on two exciting upcoming events: our second annual LillyPalooza and a new Columbia ride.

Growing Our Mission

Team Sirius’s mission has always been to help smaller nonprofits—our tagline says it best: “A Small Group of People Making a Big Difference.” Having board members with diverse connections and interests allows us to support a variety of causes in meaningful ways. Their unique perspectives help us expand our impact and find new ways to give back.

Welcoming Team Members to Our Meetings

We want the entire team to know that our board meets monthly on Zoom, and we’re opening up the meetings to team members! If you’re interested in learning more about what’s happening behind the scenes, sharing your thoughts, or getting more involved, we’d love to have you join us.

We’re excited about the future of Team Sirius and grateful for everyone who plays a part in our mission. Stay tuned for more updates, and we’ll see you on the road (or the trail, or the Zoom call) soon!

If you are interested in joining our Zoom call, contact us at TeamSiriusStL@gmail.com.
